Using an insert effect on an NN-XT is pretty fast to set up. One could choose to put a zone in a different output slot without having to use multiple NN-XTs and insert effects and so on. Case and point, using multiple audio outputs has been an important part for layering different type of drums (in particular).
While the Dr Rex had this since Reason 5. And second the NN-XT had them since Reason 2.5. Difference is, the NN-XT has more output slots. In a way, this is similar as using Audio Outputs of the Dr OctoRex.
